How I Cleared My Pregnancy Acne
I’ll be the first to tell you, the beginning of pregnancy was not good to my skin. Up until this point, I have to admit I haven’t always been the greatest about taking care of my skin. I’ve always been the girl to sleep in my makeup and only wash my face in the morning. (GIRLS! Please don’t do this! Your skin care is SO SO important!)
If there’s anything I’ve learned over the past few months, it’s that your healthy 60 year old skin starts from taking care of your 15 year old skin. I’m a few years late, but better late than never right?
From the day we found out I was pregnant, I swear the acne started popping up out of nowhere. Honestly, my skin had never been so bad in my life and I started to stress out a little bit (which brought on more acne).
With my skin, I find that simple is better. The more products I use, the more I break out. I also have to mention that I have normal/oily skin. I’ve been more on the oily side since I’ve been pregnant.
Before I get into the products I’ve been using to clear up my acne, I have to preface by saying that I truly believe my diet and exercise are what have truly helped my skin.
In the beginning of pregnancy I didn’t really have an appetite, so I was just eating what I could. The only thing that really sounded good to me were Taco Bell bean burritos and nacho fries (so healthy, right?!). I wasn’t exercising and I also don’t think I was drinking as much water as I should. As my pregnancy went on and into my second trimester, my dietary habits not only followed, but they got worse. I was eating a lot of fast food, sweets, and drinking soda every day. Before pregnancy, I never drank soda and rarely ate any sort of sweets.
As I got further into my second trimester, I knew it was time for me to change something. I started incorporating exercise back into my routine and I completely stopped drinking soda, switched my every day sweets for fruit, and hardly ever eat out any more. Any time I eat fast food, my skin will breakout the next day, so I know that was a huge contributing factor. I’ve been way more conscious about adding in more veggies and healthy fats into my diet to ensure I’m getting the right amount of nutrients for not only me and my skin, but for baby as well. I’ve been drinking a little over a gallon of water every day as well, which I know I has helped tremendously.
Skin Care Products I Use
My night time routine has become the most important part of my skin care. Like I mentioned before, I used to be terrible about taking my makeup off at the end of the day, so that’s the one thing I’ve focused on the most when trying to clear up my acne. As far as the mornings go, I usually just rinse my face with water or I’ll use a face wipe to refresh my skin from the night before and follow up with a moisturizer.
To remove my makeup, I like these Neutrogena makeup remover wipes to take off all of my makeup, I sometimes alternate between these and the great value brand from Walmart. I personally feel like they both do the same job at removing my makeup.
After removing the first layer of makeup with makeup wipes, I use my Clarisonic Mia 2 and a dime size of the Skin Ceuticals LHA Cleansing Gel. This is not sponsored, I genuinely love this product! This face wash is a little on the pricey side, but when it comes to my skin, I tend to believe you get what you pay for. This is my holy grail face wash, and I cannot recommend it enough. It leaves your face with a really fresh, clean feeling that I love. If it’s a day that I need to exfoliate, I will use my Skin Ceuticals micro-exfoliating scrub or the St. Ives Apricot Scrub.
Once my face is completely cleansed, it’s time to moisturize. I cannot express how important it is to moisturize. No matter how oily you are, you need to moisturize. Staying moisturized is what keeps your skin balanced.
My favorite moisturizer right now is the TULA Hydrating Day and Night Cream. I also use the CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion. No matter which moisturizer I choose, they leave my face feeling refreshed, plump, and hydrated!
