How to Balance a Full Time Job and Full Time Side Hustle
For a lot of us hoping to start a successful business, we have to start it as a side hustle while we work full time. Like many others, I haven’t had the luxury of being able to stay home while pursuing my dreams. I currently work a full 40 hour/week schedule while trying to get Mostly Mariah up and running.
Balance isn’t an easy task to manage, but it’s extremely crucial when you have a busy life to tend to. If you’re anything like me, you want to prioritize work life and family life, but it’s also important to work your goals into that schedule as well.
Here are my top 3 tips to get you closer to balance:
- Prioritize – If you want to have a successful side hustle you need to get your priorities straight. Would it be easier to come home after a long day at work and watch tv? Yes, absolutely. I understand that it’s been a long day, however, it would be more beneficial to get your laptop out and work while you have the tv on in the background. If you want something bad enough, you’ll stop making excuses and start finding time. If this is something you really want to turn into a business, you’ll treat it like that. More than likely, this situation will only be temporary and you’ll look back and realize how much all of the hard work paid off.
- Make a Schedule – My full time job already has a set schedule everyday, but my side hustle does not. It’s important to make a set schedule that you can stick to for your goals as well. The benefit of having your business is that you can work your own hours, so split up your working hours during the week for a schedule that fits you best.
- Work Ahead – If you have a weekend with no plans, take the day to get some work done in bulk. If I have a day or two to just stay home, I’ll write as many blog posts as I can during those two days, that way I’ll have them to post on the days that I find myself overwhelmed or too busy with other things to work on my blog.
Bonus Tip: Whatever your side hustle is, remember that it will be worth it. Work hard, make time, make sacrifices, and stay consistent; everything else will fall into place.
